Nexium is a brand name for the active ingredient in Astroglide. Astroglide is an H2 antagonist and is used to treat acid-related reflux disease (as well as heartburn and acid regurgitation) in adults.
Nexium is available in a range of dosages from 10mg to 40mg. A gastro-intestinal enzyme (esomepocid) called esomepsin is commonly prescribed. The dosage of esomepsin is 10mg or 20mg. The recommended dose for adults is 20mg. It is important to note that this medication is only intended for use in children. The safety and efficacy of this medication has not been established in adult patients.
Children over the age of 12 must consult their doctor before taking this medication. Its use is not recommended in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

For patients who have moderate or severe liver impairment (poor circulation), the 20mg dose of Nexium should be started at 600mg once daily. This dose may be increased to the same dose as with the 10mg dose. Dosage adjustment is not recommended based on individual pharmacokinetic data.
The 20mg dose of Nexium should be taken with food or two hours before or after food. The tablet should be taken with food or two hours before the expected start of meals. For patients with severe hepatic impairment (poor circulation), the 20mg dose of Nexium should be started at 800mg once daily.
